Virginia (Lawson) Long - 2010

After graduation, I worked as a live-in-babysitter in Springfield and in Tulsa for two years.

I came back home and worked several years at Mansfield Shoe Factory.

I married Vernon Long in 1973. We had a dairy operation and I worked at Cabool Shoe Factory for a few years. Later for three years I worked for Senior Services. Vernon and I started a Satellite TV Business and managed it until we retired.

We have moved once in the past 37 years--about a mile away from our farm where we live just north of Dunn in Texas Co.

Vernon has two children from a previous marriage--Lynn Long and wife Sheila. They live down the road from us. Vicki and Husband, Greg Johnson, live in West Plains. We have three grandchildren, twin great granddaughters and some step, great grandchildren. We enjoy spending time with our family.

My hobbies are genealogy and Bluegrass Music. Vernon and I have written several Bluegrass songs and had a few recorded. Vernon has a recording studio and does small recording projects for local musicians. We have a building with a stage. We enjoy having music parties with family and friends.

We have one dog and you don't want to know how many cats!

We stay busy--always something to do--fence to fix, grass to mow, wood to cut, etc.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone in July!

Past Update

Virginia (Lawson) Long

My husband, Vernon, and I have moved one time, during our 27 years of marriage, just a mile move! We are still doing satellite TV Sales and Service. I am a secretary for the Wright County Historical Society, I enjoy doing family history. I am making notes for a book on Descendants of Rev. Jonathan Owens. Vernon and I are both decendants of Jonathan. We Stay busy, spend lots of time with the grandkids! Our Grandson, Chad Johnson, is 16, his sister Shaina, is 10. Our youngest grand-daughter, Kelsey Jayne Long, is 6 years old. They are very precious.

The past few years, Vernon and I have written some songs, mostly bluegrass. We wrote one called the "Bluegrass King", the Bressler Brothers, Eminence, Missouri, recorded this one. It has received quite a lot of air play on the radio stations. We also wrote some songs for Vernon's Mother, Violet Long. We took her to Nashville, where she recorded a CD of bluegrass songs, this was fun for all of us. We may go to Nashville this spring, to do some more recording, if we have time. I hope to see many of you at the Reunion, July 1st.
