Johnnie Lou (Baty) Mahan - 2010

Fifty years ago when I graduated, I got married the next day. We had three girls. My husband was killed in a car wreck in 1968 when our baby was 7 months old. I am thankful that my husband gave his heart to the Lord 2 years before.
I remarried in 1971 and we had 2 children. We were married 21 years. My husband, Seaman, died of cancer in 1992. During those years we kept our children in church. They learned to play musical instruments--guitar, piano, mandolin and banjo. Together, we sang bluegrass gospel around the area.
I worked for the University Extension for 19 years as a Youth Education Assistant for Shannon County. I set up and maintained 4-H groups. I retired in 2002. While in that position, I was also a train-the-trainer for Missouri 4-H Shooting Stars. I still do gun safety programs in 4-H camps. I received an award this spring for teaching Hunter Education for 400 hours in 21 years.
My oldest daughter lives in Tenn. and my other daughters are in Missouri. Loudonna is a pastor's wife, Lorna is an R.N., Delinda teaches in Houston Elem., Seamon Don is a horse trainer and ferrier, and Martha lives close to me. I have 15 grandchildren and they keep me busy!
I've lived by myself in Eminence. I have chickens, horses and 3 cats to keep the mice away.
I love to hunt, quilt, and garden. I'm probably the only one around who does not have access to TV, computer or a cell phone. I had a pacemaker installed in 1994 and am on my third one. That's why I do not have a cell phone.
I've taught Sunday school to adults for several years.
I try to visit my sister in Mtn. Grove (Bonnie Maxwell-94 yrs. old) once a month.
I plan to come and see everyone on July 3rd.
