- Latest Update 2010 -
Norman & I have been married for 49 years and have lived in Kansas City, Missouri for most of those years. Early years of our married life placed us in Charleston, SC where Norman started his working career as an engineer at WUSN TV Channel 2. Late in the afternoon of the day we left Charleston to return to Kansas City for Norman to continue his education; we heard a report on the radio of the first "sit-in" at the John Francis Marion Hotel in downtown Charleston. Later that same year all of us would experience the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Lot's history surrounded all of us during those early years
Norman and I have 2 sons, 2 grandchildren and 1 grand cat.
Donnie and his wife Laurie live in Sugar Grove, IL and are the proud parents of our grandchildren - Taylor 14 and Haleigh 13. Yes, I know, they are now teenagers and what fun they are. Face book and text messaging is an every day occurrence for them. Donnie is a registered nurse working through agencies at various hospital emergency rooms in the Chicago, IL area. Who would have thought a marine would be such a wonderful caregiver. His greatest joy is having the opportunity to be of service to retired military personnel. He loves the stories they have to share and thanks them for their generous contribution to our country. Amazingly enough, most are moved to tears and state it is rare to hear words of kindness and praise. Laurie has just been promoted to comptroller, a job that will involve some international travel. Taylor can't wait until mom has to go to Europe. He wants to go along. With her new job, Donnie has now picked up the slack by being "Mr. Mom". He now makes sure everyone's schedules are met, the laundry is done and food on the table. Guess he learned a few things at the feet of his mom.
Russell lives in Kansas City and after being mentored by me for the last 3 years, is taking over our real estate endeavors and doing a wonderful job. Russell educates himself continually and has such vision. He has an amazing knack for finding properties at a good price, with an incredible understanding of what needs to be done to bring them up to value. He is our entrepreneur.
Norman retired 2 years ago from Park University after 32 years of service. We were told his retirement party was the largest party held at the University. It gave us great pleasure to observe him being honored for all of his hard work. He now states he has a different program director. Russell and I keep him busy, whether he wants to be or not. None of this rocking chair business in our family.
As for me, I am involved with lots of endeavors. I am fulfilling my life's mission by educating and mentoring anyone who wants to achieve more out of life. Life is good. Hard to believe I was such a scared little rabbit all those years ago at MGHS.
